Exploring the Chainguarden at Black Hat USA 2025
Last week, the Chainguard team had a fantastic time at Black Hat USA 2025 in Las Vegas. This is the fourth year we’ve been at Black Hat, and this year, we went bigger than ever with the debut of the “Chainguarden”, our new booth experience designed to bring a little bit of peace to the chaotic showroom floor.
Welcome to the Chainguarden

The Chainguarden was designed to be a tranquil place full of greenery, a refuge from the chaos. In keeping with the theme, we held a raffle for a Gardyn Hydroponic Indoor Garden Kit. We’re super proud of how this concept turned out. Grow plants, not vulnerabilities!
Partnering with Vanta and Orca Security for Unforgettable Experiences
Outside of the show floor, the team was busy partnering with other leaders in the security industry like Orca Security and Vanta for some unforgettable nighttime experiences.
On Tuesday, August 5, we kicked off Black Hat with Vanta at The Trust Lounge Happy Hour. There were tons of security, trust and GRC leaders, partners, and pioneers in the room unwinding and making meaningful connections at Rivea at the top of the W Hotel.

We continued the fun the next night on August 6 with Orca Security at Swingers Las Vegas, a mini golf club at Mandalay Bay. Once again, the best and brightest in security and engineering were on the course for relaxation and fun in a unique setting. We're excited about our partnership with Orca Security, and you can hear more from them at our first ever In Containers We Trust tech talks event on August 20. Register today!
Chainguard at DEF CON 33
The Chainguard team continued the fun into the weekend after the initial Black Hat event at DEF CON, a convention immediately following Black Hat that showcases community-driven, hands-on hacker culture featuring interactive events and activations.
Container Escapes 101
Chainguard Principal Field Engineer Natalie Somersall held a fantastic “Container Escapes 101” workshop at AppSec Village, where she helped attendees achieve a working knowledge of how container escape attacks work and how different tactics map to potential for exploitation. This session was a great overview of how containers actually work and where vulnerabilities can pop up when utilizing them. And the best part is that Natalie has uploaded the contents of the workshop to her website for anyone who is interested but wasn’t able to make it to the workshop in person.
Pillaging Container Registry Secrets

At Cloud Village, Chainguard Principal Product Security Engineer Mark Manning hosted a talk about different attacker scenarios targeting container registries. The talk covered general Kubernetes security, registry attack scenarios, and some research related to whiteout files, which Mark wrote more about afterwards. This presentation also included information about a new tool, PilReg, which is a pentester-focused Docker registry tool to enumerate secrets in insecurely built container images. The slides from this presentation can be found here.
Chainguard: The Secure Foundation for Software Development and Deployment
We were proud of the turnout at the Chainguarden booth on the show floor, and all the events and activations we sponsored and owned throughout the week. Chainguard wouldn’t be what it is today without all our customers and community members, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to meet and have fun with people in person at these events.
Chainguard is enabling our customers to ship faster and reclaim engineering hours with our suite of products, including Chainguard Containers, Chainguard Libraries, and Chainguard VMs. If you met us at Black Hat and are interested in learning more about how we can help your organization, get in touch today.
