The Industry’s Fastest-Growing Secure Container Catalog

Dan Lorenc, CEO and Co-founder

At Chainguard, we’re on a mission to be the safe source for open source. That means providing the best open source for engineering teams building modern products and platforms, and the security teams locking down those production environments.

We go beyond eliminating CVEs or replacing just base images. We’re focused on giving companies the best possible version of all software they depend on in their production environments: secure-by-default, fast, minimal, and trusted from source to production.

Offering 1,700+ Minimal, Zero-CVE Images in the Chainguard Containers Catalog

Our Chainguard Containers catalog now has more than 1,700 minimal, zero-CVE images, rebuilt from source every single day – leading the industry in both breadth and depth. We cover the majority of modern application stacks – programming language toolchains, CI/CD infrastructure, databases, observability tools, developer tools, AI applications, and more – all hardened and production-ready. And we give customers total flexibility to customize their images, directly access trusted packages, and migrate away from end-of-life software on their own timelines.

In every new release, we not only deliver dozens of new images, but we bring new innovations to our customers to ensure they can build with the very best software. We now have over 600 FIPS-compliant images in our catalog, all designed to meet rigorous security and regulatory standards, making it easy for organizations to power compliant, mission-critical workloads. Through our recent partnership with Azul, we deliver zero-CVE, enterprise-grade Java images backed by commercial support. And with our recent support of Azure Functions, we enable organizations to build and deploy secure, event-driven applications by providing a hardened, minimal Node.js container image purpose-built for the Azure serverless environment. Every image in the catalog is built and curated with continuous updates, best-in-class SLAs, and end-to-end transparency, setting a new standard for the way modern enterprises build software.

Unlocking the Full Power of Chainguard with Catalog Pricing

In June, we opened up unlimited access to our catalog with Catalog Pricing. This model gives commercial customers access to all 1,700+ images, all of the 10,000+ underlying packages, and the 80+ images we add each month on average.

So far, the results have been incredible. Even more customers are building and innovating securely with even more container images:

  • Catalog Pricing adoption: Today, 36% of Chainguard customers from Fortune 500 organizations to category-defining startups have moved to Catalog Pricing, giving their engineering teams access to any image in our catalog on demand.

  • A growing catalog of container images: Since launch, we’ve added over 300 images to our catalog – all rebuilt continuously with broad customization capabilities and a reduced attack surface for better supply chain integrity.

  • Container image usage across industries: Customers on Catalog Pricing use 31 images on average, which is 47% higher than those on per-image pricing.

Those numbers are great, but what matters most is what this helps our customers do. Across industries, teams are reducing vulnerabilities, eliminating hours of patching work, and moving faster because of Catalog Pricing.

Teams Are Scaling Securely with Access to Chainguard’s Full Catalog

Customers are using our catalog to build faster, reduce risk, and free up engineering time.

“Chainguard’s full catalog model helps our teams strengthen the security of containerized applications at Snap by providing access to a catalog of security-focused images. This lets us move quickly to container images that best suit our needs. We want to make it easy for the Snap team to build on a secure, resilient foundation across Snap,” said Shrikant Pandhare, Head of Infrastructure Security at Snap Inc.

“At Second Front, we make it faster and easier to deliver secure, compliant software to government teams and missions where security is non-negotiable. Chainguard’s Catalog Pricing gives us access to an extensive library of secure, trusted open source images. No surprises, no hoops to jump through, just the freedom to move fast with security and trust built in,” shared Jeff Davis, Senior Staff Platform Engineer at Second Front.

“Switching to Chainguard’s Catalog Pricing model was a game-changer for us. Gaining full access to Chainguard’s entire image catalog empowers our engineering teams to innovate quickly and securely — which is mission critical for a company like Vannevar Labs,” said Joseph Lombardo, Head of Infrastructure and Security at Vannevar Labs.

With Catalog Pricing, we’re making secure-by-default the easy choice for every engineering team.

Built on Chainguard OS and the Chainguard Factory

Powering the scale of our catalog is Chainguard OS and the Chainguard Factory. Chainguard OS is our minimal Linux distribution designed for secure, update-friendly container environments. The Chainguard Factory is our hardened build automation system that rebuilds 10,000+ OSS packages daily, detects and remediates CVEs proactively, assembles those packages into 1,700+ images, and ensures every image is up-to-date and verifiable. That combination means we can take a request for a new image and ship it – hardened, reproducible, and patched – in days, not months, while maintaining that new software continuously over time. No other vendor comes close to this combination of automation, transparency, and image quality.

Raising the Bar for Secure Software at Scale

With unlimited catalog access, we allow teams to build faster and more securely. Our customers and partners are proving it works. Across industries, they’re shipping faster, mitigating risk, and reclaiming engineering hours to focus on innovation.
